My senior community are homeowners but are required to pay lot rent. Each year the rent increases with little chance of reconsideration of the proposed increase. Essentially, we are "taxpayers without representation". Last year we were hit with a 6.5% increase. This resulting in homeowners' ability to keep up with monthly bills. In fact, some have been forced to sell. The increase is, in part, based on the CPI (inflation). We need a core CPI established that will stabilize these increasingly punishing rent increases. There are hundreds of thousands of consumers (if not millions) here in Florida that are impacted each year. In our senior years, after paying our way, now we are forced to decide on whether to buy groceries, meds, or utility bill.
