My name is Leonard Salomo and I am a tenant living in Louisville . I live in a building with a government financed mortgage.

The rent is too damn high. We are having to pay the water and trash bill for the building even if we aren't here and using the water or trash pickup. When the new management company came in they changed the terms of the lease with only a couple weeks notice. This raised our cost of living which was already too high. There should have been a conversation before they changed everything, and gave us enough notice to plan our next steps.

They also said they would clean the carpet and fix the hole in my wall, and that hasn't been done. The carpet is filthy and the hole is still there. They haven't replaced my air filters in ages. My kids keep getting sick because of our living conditions. This is unacceptable.

They make us wait every month to find out how much we owe in total for water etc before we can pay our rent. And we get fined if we are late. That ain't right!

In addition to limits on rent hikes, the FHFA should prohibit evictions without good cause, ban source of income discrimination, enforce and expand existing protections against discrimination, require safe and accessible housing conditions, create a landlord registry, require fair and standardized leases, ensure tenants have the right to organize, and create an Office of Tenant Protections to enforce these rights in all properties with federally backed mortgages.

    Sincerely,
    Leonard Salomo
