    Rent in Charleston, SC has become so burdensome for my employees that I have had to open a dispatch office in Summerville SC. Downtown and Mt Pleasant is about a 45 minute to 1 hour trip for each of them in the morning. I employ 30 people and only have 3 maids that live inside the I526 corridor. No one that works for me can afford to live in those areas thus they end up living in areas they can afford and then traveling in order to complete work. When I do get someone inside the corridor they become so valuable and they end up fulfilling far more jobs simply because of location.

    If there was more affordable housing inside these areas, I could employ people in those areas to service the homes and apartments in those areas much better. As it stands now, the first arrival times in those areas are almost 9:30-10:00 simply because of commutes. What makes this even more of an issue for a maid service is that most of the people that afford a home cleaner live in the more expensive areas, the people that clean the homes for them travel from outside the area for that work.
