My name is Brittany Wright and I live in Charleston, South Carolina. I am commenting today to ask for the government’s help with increasing rent prices. My city has been raising rents by the thousands in just one year! The homeless population is increasing substantially. It has become impossible to find affordable housing. I have lived in the same place for 5 years with no improvements. Every year my rent has raised about $100. Last year my rent raises $400 in one lease with plans to raise it ANOTHER $400 this year! No improvements. Horrible living situation. But with rents even higher, deposits doubled, and the expense of moving, it is impossible to even dream of an escape. We are paying thousands of dollars for slums. This is also taking all my income. Which means I barely have money for food and I definitely have no money for other items that help boost the economy. If we can only afford the price to live, the economy begins to fail.

We ask that you please step in. Put raising limits that help the tenant. Easier approval ratings. If you can help the landlords, you should help the tenants because we are nwjayt being taken advantage of. I have tried turning to our owners but it is now owned by an investment company. That means my landlord, a company, is now just using me to increase their profits. The do not care about us, they do not respect us, and they do nothing for us unless it threatens their income. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
