I've heard some horror stories from a former state government employee about maintenance failures in FHFA housing in New Jersey. The conversations were pre-pandemic, so there may have been some changes by this time. However, I think that FHFA needs to have a special group to listen to tenant complaints and assure that owners are maintaining their properties. This may require new regs. In addition, there must be some mechanism to prevent post-pandemic rent increases and onerous lease agreements. Tenants should also be provided with contact numbers that work and whom to contact in government should owners not provide adequate maintenance.
