I have been horrified to see rents almost double over the last two years. Young people who got better wages, allowing them to avoid homelessness, have now had their wages taken by extreme rent increases. This is only one of the things that make life hard for renters in this country. I believe property owners and management companies have now developed algorithms to that allow them to charge the maximum possible that will keep their buildings full, regardless of what that does to the lives of renters. We need new legislation to keep landlords from raising rents so extremely and to give some legal protections to tenants in the event that they can't make the rent payment right on time. We also need better safety requirements for housing.
Please make rules that don't allow subsidization or loans to companies unless they treat tenants more sanely.
