Please evidence that our federal government will commit financial support for working class citizens seeking, often, the most basic housing that enables them to live within 50-70 miles of where they work OR as was my experience in NYC, to continue living in crumbling buildings with so many code violations they are nearly uninhabitable just to remain in the borough where they work. During my time there, I watched my landlord turn from a dedicated, working class guy into a slumlord. Amid COVID in California, I’ve witnessed friends and coworkers encounter the same.

The service and support industry workers that Americans earning anything more than $85,000/year rely upon MUST be supported - preferably directly instead of through convoluted landlord subsidies - to remain housed and healthy amid the imploding catastrophes our country is facing.

Please craft policy that saves lives now. It will likely save your own. It’s dangerous to pretend any segment of our American population can be sacrificed.

    Sincerely,
    Janna
