As a legal aid lawyer, I have witnessed how the law ultimately grants outsize power to landlords in the relationship between owners of property and their renters. While tenants have protections in the stringency of notices and timing that landlords must give them under law in California where I practiced (and probably other states), that furnishes limited benefit to tenants in the end. The power remains mostly with landlords, so significantly increased protections for renters should be enacted.
