I heard the federal government is deciding whether to require landlords who get some kinds of federal money to agree to tenant protections, like limiting rent hikes, banning evictions without good cause, and standardizing leases in over 12 million apartment units nationwide.

Please protect tenants! Houses have become very difficult to afford to buy, so many more people have to rent. But if they're paying high rents, they cannot save for down payments on their own homes.

We know that the rent is STILL too damn high. Landlords have too much power over lives and homes. They hike rent, offer slow maintenance or none at all, evict people, and discriminate.

The federal government is in business with many landlords, offering them favorable loan terms to finance their businesses. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, also known as the “Government Sponsored Enterprises,” work with banks to offer $150 billion to landlords in financing every year, without any strings attached.

Landlords are forcing untenable conditions on tenants–something's got to give. Please help prevent more people from becoming homeless.
