    With rents having skyrocketed where I live over the last few years and availability of rentals being the worst it's been in my lifetime, landlords have way too much power over tenants in an already very unbalanced power relationship. We're experiencing record levels of homelessness in recent years as its incredibly difficult to find an affordable rental. Obviously this is a puzzle with many moving parts, requiring a number of approaches and creative problem solving. We need basic tenant protections such as no evictions without just cause as well as defacto eviction by exorbitant rent increases. When people are forced out there's no where to go right now that's remotelyaffordable. Housing should be seen as a basic human right.
