Thank you for allowing me to speak. One of the biggest problems I had when my blind son finally received a rent voucher from HUD, was finding a vacancy excepting the voucher. We finally did at the very last moment of the deadline. Everything was great until we found out there would be a $1.000 deposit, plus, $50. for a credit check which Hud had already done, , A $250.00 advance on the deposit just to hold the unit until the first of the month. His portion of the first and last months rent , a key deposit, and an extra $ 40. per month for a parking space. (for a blind person that does not own a vehicle) However it was mandatory. Even though Hud paid 70% of the rent, his total move in cost out of pocket was $1,480.00. My son has excellent credit, plus he had been a previous tenant with the same rental Corp. It had to be paid or forfeit the voucher, so there was no choice but to take out a bank loan. This is why homeless people are homeless.
