I write in support of tenant protections as a condition of government-backed loans to landlords. Please create an Office of Tenant Protections and add terms to FHFA loans for rental properties that include rent regulation to prevent unfair hikes and excessive profiteering; fair leases; evictions limited to those for good cause; prohibitions against discrimination including source of funds discrimination; safety, quality, and accessibility standards; landlord registry; and protections for tenants' right to organize. Please act with urgency and care to protect tenants. Thank you for attention to these issues.
