    I have been a landlord for 15 years and I am appalled how landlords are raising their rents just because the market place has determined that they can get the highest price without regard to whether renters can afford it.
    I have " lost " income but not my moral compass - I charge a reasonable amount for my rental property based on what I feel people can afford. I cover my costs and add a few hundred dollars to my mortgage.
    Unfortunately, most landlords only think about bottom line - how much money they can make. With federal oversight - landlords can be regulated. Sometimes it takes a law to make people behave like fellow human beings.
