I am writing in support of the proposal to condition federal loans to landlords on a set of tenant protections. This is a great way to improve lives, and even save lives, at no cost to taxpayers. I say save lives because, make no mistake, people do die from being evicted. The streets are a rough place, and people freeze to death, get sick, starve, commit suicide, die by violence, and all manner of things when they are homeless. A landlord shouldn't be able to inflict that on someone just because they want more money.
