    Dear Director Thompson,

As a concerned citizen and low-income renter, I believe our country has a responsibility to support housing equity and ensure our liberties are protected at times. I write to urge the Federal Housing Finance Agency to establish strong, robust renter protections for properties with federally backed mortgages. In creating and enforcing these protections, America can begin to make critical change towards greater housing justice.

Renter protections should include source of income protections to prohibit discrimination by landlords; ‘just cause’ evictions; sustainable infrastructure regulations; and rent gouging protections to prevent dramatic, unjustified increases in rent. Through protections like this, we can create greater housing stability and help millions of Americans have safe, healthy homes.

FHFA has a responsibility to upholding equal protections. Please commit to this responsibility and invest intentionally in efforts that fortify renter protections and redress unfair practices normalized by landlords supported by federally backed mortgages.

Thank you for your labor and time.

    Sincerely,
    Jayla Hart
