Housing is incredibly import to our country. Providing quality housing is like any business. Providing a quality product, customer support and appropriate pricing are critical. Businesses ability to attract and keep the best customers is critical to success. We already have a legal system that allows for fair contracts between businesses and adults. However, these new and proposed regulations are counter to good business practices and increase the cost of operations. Limiting the ability to have a fair contract and to require reasonable credit means the cost of operations increase. Without the ability to earn a fair profit for the investment, cost and work required means less housing supply and ultimately higher rents and prices. Rather than make housing more expensive to operat try using a carrot and make it easier to operate housing and to build new housing. As a landlord and developer I could put a list of all the things government could do to make providing housing more difficult and expensive. That list would be all of the actions local, state and federal government are doing; exactly the opposite of what will lower the cost of housing. If you want to have an increasingly more difficult housing environment continue to drive up the cost of operating and developing housing because that is exactly what government is doing.
