The new initiative to penalize homebuyers with a greater than 680 credit score to subsidize a relief for those with less than 680 score is overall not a good move. It is not taking into account income. You are affecting those with lower incomes who have been as responsible as possible to keep a good credit score. Not all those with bad credit scores are victims of circumstance. Some have made truly irresponsible decisions which will in turn translate into how they pay for their mortgage loan. Any relief should be based off income. So those with lower income with good scores can get some much needed interest relief but not at the expense of them being penalized for a good score. Not everyone with a good credit score had help to get there. There are more issues with the housing crisis than this and without addressing those all you are doing is penalizing those who have worked hard and sacrificed to get to this moment. One percent may not seem a lot to you but for many that percentage can price them out of a home, have to make other sacrifices in healthcare, groceries, etc. This measure needs to be thought through and should be something voted on by congress so the people can have their voice heard.
