I am a loan officer with Academy Mortgage. GFees have grown so much over the last few years. I understand that in some cases they are necessary. But my opinion is that money raised by these fees should be used within the FhFa. Money raised should not be used by Congress to pay for other projects outside of this department or truly real estate connected issues. Case in point after the BP oil spill congress added a GFee to help pay for the clean up. I feel many in Congress see this as an avenue to raise money without "raising" taxes. I think it is worse because it makes loans more expensive for homebuyers (an already very small group) thus further slowing the housing even nation's economic recovery. Of course it would be ideal to lower the current fees but that probably won't happen. However, I humbly submit that rather than raise the current fees try instead to re-appropriate or get back the funds leaving FhFa. This would allow the department to use the funds within FhFa towards department and Real Estate connected needs. Well that's this loan officers opinion. Thanks for allowing me to add my two cents to this discussion.
