The FHLB Des Moines is one of our primary sources of liquidity to fund our loans. Competition from Non-Bank Entities and Credit Unions are making it very difficult for our small rural community Bank to get funding. These entities have tax advantages that really hurt our ability to gather deposits. The flexibility that the FHLB Des Moines provides with their line of advances and Line of Credit gives the ability to adapt to be competitive. If we lost this ease of access and wide options, it would seriously hurt our ability to serve our community. We have been able to provide funding and grow our community, because we live here and know our customers, they are our friends and family. Something a community Bank can do so much better than large out of area providers. Think if we lost our local Banks, as a business needs funding and has to work with a Non-Bank Entity that competes directly with this new business. Do you think they will serve the best interest of that business. We need to keep our Bank Industry Independent, Anti-Trust Laws are important. The Funding that FHLB has done is a great service to keep our local Banks operating instead of competing with them, like the Farm Credit System. As such, it is important to keep the FHLB structure working, as it is, it works best providing flexibility and competitive options to grow our community.
