I am very familiar with the FHLB-C and their outreach in various communities in Chicago. I have also read the comments made by Cornelius Hurley in the American Banker. The FHLB system is a success story. My community bank relies on them to advance funds so the bank fund projects in the community and retail lending that they otherwise could not do. Dr. Hurley represents so-called experts in finance who overlook these good works and ignore other government funded agencies that do not pay taxes, like the Farm Credit System and the 4,000 credit unions.
