Fannie Mae's participation in LIHTC equity investments in rural areas is a critical source of market competition. LIHTC pricing in rural areas suffers greatly compared to Urban Areas. Now, while the underlying legal issues that have stopped Fannie Mae from participating in multi-investor funds is significant, Fannie Mae's Duty to serve rural communities is equally so and any reduction should be considered with meaningful scrutiny and such a reduction should not be allowed to persist- regardless of any resolutions with the Treasury Department concerning Fannie Mae participation in multi-investor LIHTC investment funds.
