    We support AHP focus on down payment assistance programs. The success and sustainability of assisted homebuyers is due to comprehensive homebuyer preparation provided by partners. Proper homebuyer preparation includes an education component (whether a group class or an approved online course) combined with pre- and post-purchase counseling provided by a HUD-certified counselor. The Affordable Housing Program should require that low-income homebuyers assisted receive comprehensive homebuyer preparation consisting of pre-purchase education combined with one-on-one counseling.
