My wife and I got solar on our roof last year and we're happily reaping the benefits. Everyone should do it who has enough solar energy available for their home, including lower income people who may pay more proportionally for their energy use.
I'm certain the those who can least afford the high cost of energy will benefit from reducing their mortgage risk, default rates, and foreclosures, etc. We must make sure that low-income homes can become as energy efficient as my wife's and mine. I believe Fannie and Freddie should take the lead to make uniform buyer disclosure forms so that borrowers can better understand the energy and water consumption of the home they’re about to buy. Moreover, we must provide subsidies for home efficiency programs, which would be particularly important for lower income buyers, will aid U.S. goals of energy independence and reduced carbon emission to fight global warming.
